Creation of La Herencia Viva / The Living Heritage

La Herencia Viva (The Living Heritage) is a public sculpture I created for Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, Florida, celebrating cultural roots, identity, and community. Below, I share the creative journey—from concept and sketches to installation—through photos and videos.

Project Description

La Herencia Viva, is a large-scale human face composed of interlocking puzzle-like segments. Each segment represents a different cultural background, skin tone, or symbolic pattern, while several pieces are raised or missing—suggesting the ongoing, dynamic process of belonging and inclusion. Some segments are made of mirrored vinyl, inviting viewers to literally see themselves within the work and reflect on their place in society. The divisions resemble map borders, referencing migration, transformation, and identity.
This work is not intended to portray any one person, but rather to represent all of

us.and can be commissioned in a range of sizes to suit your space.

La Herencia Viva is available for sale and can be commissioned in a range of sizes to suit your space.  Small collectible models of the sculpture are also available.
